Advice for raising the engine?

im wanting to replace my trucks passenger motor mount. it should be relatively easy compared to other self-repairs. the thing is, i have to raise the engine a bit to take pressure off the mount. i don't have an engine hoist nor do i know where to locate one that i can use. i was suggested putting a wooden board under the oil-pan and using a jack, but im afraid that will warp or damage the oil pan. any help here? can i raise the engine safely with the jack and board or should i try to find an engine hoist?
