What is the best area to live around detroit for an upper middle class single male?

Grosse Pointe is a bit too much for my taste and most of it isn't my type of crowd. Are there any other areas around Detroit that are ideal to live in for a single white single 32 year old? My income is around $200k/yr so I was thinking something like Rochester Hills, Bloomfield Hills, etc. I'd love to be near a lake and eventually get a boat. Then again, maybe Grand Rapids is more appropriate. Any suggestions?
